Learning and Connecting in Basel, Switzerland
In the last week of June, 2016, I attended the 20th International Symposium of Dental Hygiene in Basel, Switzerland. This is a three-day event put together by the International Federation of Dental Hygienists (IFDH), and is a unique opportunity to connect with dental hygiene professionals across the world. I learned that by being ADHA members we are all IFDH Association Members. The IFDH represents twenty-nine countries from around the world, and holds a symposium every three years. The next meeting will be in Seoul, Korea, 2019. Much like the Greater New York Dental Meeting, (GNYDNM) there are lectures, exhibits, case presentations, social events and plenty of research posters to browse.
There was so much to learn while at the Symposium in beautiful Basel! While it is nearly impossible to choose the most memorable takeaway, I most enjoyed learning that America’s ToothFairy is now the World’s ToothFairy; please see http://www.ncohf.org/world . Last year alone 2.2 million children and caregivers were reached and given oral hygiene care products through America’s ToothFairy/ World’s ToothFairy! On that same note of social responsibility and projects, there will be a Social Responsibility Conference in Florence, Italy Summer of 2017. This meeting will be for any oral health care provider interested in engaging in such conversation and having influence. More information on that conference can be found here: http://www.ifdh.org/newsletter/ifdh-enews-winter-2016.html
I hope to see you at the GNYDM!
