I was born in New York City and raised in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, New York. My parents emigrated from Puerto Rico to New York during the depression to pursue the American Dream. I graduated from Hostos Community College, Bronx, NY in 1979 with dreams of helping others by providing optimum oral health care, and a positive dental experience. I joined DHACNY, and was mentored by some incredible hygienists who shared their passion for our profession with me. They ignited the fire in me that still burns strong and wild with a passion for learning and educating. In 2013 I received my Bachelors of Science Degree in Promotion of Oral Health from O’Hehir University. I pursued my dreams of caring, sharing, learning and being the best dental hygienist; someone who made the dental experience easy and educational for my patients. I am proof dreams do come true. When you ask yourself the question, “Is there more?” I say, YES THERE IS.
The Dental Hygienists’ Association of the City of New York, Inc. has been supporting hygienists in the boroughs for over 50 years. Our goal is to promote and increase access to care, to achieve the highest standards of dental hygiene education, and to represent the dental hygiene profession.
In order to achieve these goals, we must remember to support, empower and mentor one another and most importantly, to stay active in our professional organization, DHACNY.
